Learn how to assemble and attach your Flex-Connect Ultra Dual Tray for a stable underwater lighting rig. Step-by-step instructions with common mistakes to avoid.

Quick answer

Assemble the Flex-Connect Ultra Dual Tray by attaching the grips and light arms in the correct orientation for your housing, then mount your lights and camera to create a balanced underwater rig.

Why tray orientation matters

The Ultra Dual Tray is bow-shaped to fit wider housings like the SeaLife SportDiver Ultra. You can orient the grips and lights behind the housing or in front of it. Placing them behind keeps the rig compact for travel; placing them in front shifts the center of gravity and can improve balance with larger lights. Choose based on your housing width and light size.

Mistakes to avoid during assembly

A common error is tightening the grip screws before the tray is aligned with the housing. Leave them slightly loose until you confirm the housing sits level. Another is mounting lights on both arms before checking clearance—if the arms are too close, the lights may collide with the housing or each other.

Assembly steps

  1. Attach the tray base: Place the Flex-Connect Ultra Dual Tray on a flat surface. Position your SeaLife housing centered on the tray, aligning the tripod mount hole. Screw the tray's mounting bolt into the housing's 1/4-20 thread. Tighten until snug—do not overtighten, as this can strip the plastic threads. Check that the housing sits level before moving to the next step.
  2. Mount the grip arms: Insert the left and right grip arms into the tray's side slots. The arms should angle slightly outward for a natural hand position. Tighten the locking screws just enough to hold the arms in place—you will finalize the angle after attaching the lights. If the arms feel loose, add a small drop of thread-locker to the screws (not included).
  3. Attach the lights: Slide each Sea Dragon light or flash onto the arm's ball mount. Tighten the thumbscrew until the light holds its position but can still be adjusted. Point both lights forward and slightly inward to reduce backscatter. Test the light angle by holding the rig in front of you—lights should illuminate the area directly in front of the housing lens.
  4. Balance and final tighten: Hold the assembled rig by the grips. If one side feels heavier, slide the tray forward or backward on the housing mount. Once balanced, tighten all screws firmly. Double-check that the lights do not block the housing's buttons or viewfinder. A balanced rig reduces wrist fatigue during long dives.

Product facts

  • Flex-Connect® Ultra Dual Tray: Bow-shaped dual tray provides ideal fit for the SeaLife SportDiver and other wide underwater camera housings. This shape prevents the tray from interfering with the housing's bulk, so you can mount two lights without the rig feeling unbalanced or cramped.
